Health, Sanitation and Nutrition

Our approach to health, sanitation, and nutrition is characterized by practical, outcome-oriented initiatives:

Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture
Through our FPO initiatives across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, we promote dietary diversity and nutritional security. Projects such as the black rice cultivation by Rikseng Agro Producer Company in Dhemaji and millet cultivation by Uttarporia Millet Farmer Producer Company in Lakhimpur demonstrate our commitment to revitalizing nutritionally dense traditional crops that address micronutrient deficiencies prevalent in rural communities.
Natural Farming for Food Safety
Our transition of multiple FPOs to natural farming techniques, as evidenced in Cachar, Lunglei, and Sibsagar, ensures that communities have access to chemical-free, nutritious food. By eliminating harmful pesticides and promoting organic inputs, we address the root causes of numerous health issues while enhancing environmental sustainability.

Climate-Health Resilience
Our workshops on climate change and adaptation techniques in Dibrugarh acknowledge the critical relationship between climate resilience and public health. By helping communities understand and prepare for climate-related health risks, we strengthen community resilience against vector-borne diseases and other climate-sensitive health conditions.
Value Addition for Nutritional Enhancement
Our food processing initiatives under the Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme enable communities to preserve seasonal nutritional abundance while reducing post-harvest losses. These interventions simultaneously address nutritional gaps during lean seasons and create economic opportunities.

Cross-Sector Collaboration
We work closely with health and sanitation stakeholders through our extensive network of regional offices across Northeast India, ensuring our agricultural and livelihood interventions complement broader public health objectives.
Community-Led Monitoring
Within our producer organizations, we establish participatory monitoring mechanisms that track not just economic indicators but also improvements in health and nutritional status, ensuring accountability for holistic outcomes.
